ZINC

USES:

Over 11 million tons of zinc is produced every year. 50% of this is used to make a zinc coating to protect steel from corrosion, which is a process known as galvanization. 17% of this is used for the production of zinc based alloys, mainly used for die casting. Another 17% of this is used to produce brass and bronze. Brass is used to make pennies, musical instruments, screws, etc. 6% of it is used to make rolled zinc, which they use to make roofs, gutters, etc. The rest of the zinc produced is used to make compounds such as, zinc oxide and zinc sulfate. Zinc oxide is used in batteries, printing ink, cosmetics, some plastic things, etc. Zinc sulfate glows when exposed to UV rays, x-rays or electrons so, it is used in television screens, fluorescent light bulbs and luminous watch dials.
